The Birth of the Tablet PC

The iPad on a table in the Apple case

When the tablet PC was first introduced, it was closer to a variation on laptops than the ones we see on the market today. Typically they were laptops that had a screen which swiveled around and had a touch screen. Compared to the tablet PCs of today, they are hardly recognizable.

Introduction to the Modern Tablet PC

In the last few years, the design of tablet PCs has been completely revolutionized. The first of the modern tablets was the Apple iPad, which did away with bulkiness, making these tablet PCs truly portable. This is a big advantage in today’s world where 13″ screens and two pounds of computer is just too much for many consumers to lug around. Because of the innovation of design, many hopped onto the iPad train.

Revolution of Tablet PCs

Since the introduction to the iPad, however, many manufacturers have come out with better tablets that really cater to the consumer. One of these is the ability to use Flash. The iPad lacks this functionality preventing the ability to use the tablet PCs effectively. Without Flash, you can’t watch videos on YouTube or use many websites fully. Another improvement are other operating systems available including Google Android, which improves on Apple iOS, which is used by iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads.

There are so many models of tablet PCs now available, it may be hard to choose the model that you like the best. When choosing, take the time to research the different choices and pick the one that matches your lifestyle the best.

Easy Tips for Creating a Digital Photo Album

Digital cameras have revolutionized the way we share photographs. Now that our pictures are no longer restricted to dusty photo albums and disorganized photo boxes, we can share our pictures with the world via digital photo albums. And there are other benefits to creating a digital photo album, too.

If you are thinking about creating a digital photo album, here are few tips that will help you get started:

  1. Install the software that came with your digital camera on your computer. This will allow your computer to view and upload the images from your camera.
  2. Connect your camera to your computer’s tower via the USB cable that came with your digital camera. This will allow your computer to “read” the camera. You will be taken through a series of prompts that will direct you on how to upload the photos from your camera. Upload the images and save them to a file on your computer.
  3. Go online and select one of the many digital photo albums available, many of which are free, then follow the steps to upload your images to the site.
  4. Once your album is created, you can begin sharing it with friends and family. Every digital photo album site is different in terms of how people can access your photo album. Some provide you with a link to share, which you can email to friends, and others allow you to create a guest list in which all you have to do is furnish your guests a password.

Laptops are a popular choice of computer for those who want to do computing on the go, but unlike desktop computers, laptops are more prone to overheating, which can lead to significant mechanical problems.

Why So Hot?

Laptops were created with air vents to help funnel out the heat generated by the computer, but most of the time, these vents are located under the base of the laptop, i.e., on your lap or another work surface, which tends to block the air flow, keeping the heat confined within the computer.

Other contributors to a hot laptop including running programs that require lots of memory such as games, videos or other graphic-laden programs that make your computer run at a high capacity. A faulty cooling system can also be the culprit.

Cool it

So how do you avoid a laptop meltdown? Here are a few great tips to keep it from overheating:

  • Invest in a laptop cooling pad, a special surface specifically designed to deflect the heat your laptop generates.
  • Keep your air vents free of dust also helps, so make sure to clean the vents regularly.
  • Avoid running multiple programs that use lots of graphics or memory. These programs are energy zappers, which cause your laptop to run on overdrive.
  • Avoid having multiple windows open on your computer. When a program is no longer in use, close it out.

Having your own website to showcase your professional portfolio has become almost an industry standard, particularly for professionals working in the creative services sector.

Photographers, designers, illustrators and writers are now posting their entire collections of work on the Internet as it allows them to beautifully showcase their work in a slick and user-friendly fashion. It’s also a great advertising tool; now, potential clients can see the type of work the creator does in advance of meeting the applicant, which saves both parties time.

If you are considering creating your own website, here are a few tips on how to get started:

  1. Purchase a domain name. The domain name is the name of your website, so make sure you choose something that’s professional.  Domain names are purchased via a registrar who will sell you the rights to your website name for a nominal annual fee.
  2. Find a web host and sign up for an account. A web host ensures that your site is connected to the Internet. In order to make this happen, you need to connect your domain name to the web host so that your site can be found on the Internet.
  3. Begin creating web pages. Many web hosts have intuitive design programs in place to help you design your pages. For those without these types of programs, consider hiring a web designer or acquainting yourself with web design software.
  4. Test your site to make sure the pages load correctly in all the popular browsers.

Our technology-based world has seen a great rate of growth. In just the past few decades we’ve seen and experienced things that used to be considered fantasy or science fiction. Many of us used to laugh at the idea of having a mobile phone, thinking it to be something out of a James Bond movie. However, here are a few examples of the latest works of technology that are no longer considered science fiction.

Kindle
The Kindle is the first of several e-book readers, otherwise known as wireless reading devices. E-book readers have only been available for about the past two years; however, their popularity has grown in leaps and bounds. These devices have improved vastly as well. The reader’s view space has increased as well as being developed to allow viewing while sitting in the sun. Wireless access and coverage have also been added and upgraded.

Smartphones
It used to be that we only used our phones for making telephone calls. Then it evolved into a texting machine, followed by a way to share pictures and videos. Then came the smartphone. The Apple iPhone seems to be the most popular, allowing users to do many more things with a very small device. Smartphones have become a way to play our music, play games, access the Internet, as well as offer email capabilities. Users can also visit sites such as Offers.com for the latest shopping deals. Oh, and smartphones do still let users make traditional voice calls!

iPads and Tablets
The iPad and other computing tablets have made it possible to take almost all of our computing requirements and make them mobile in a very small footprint. These tablets can do just about anything a traditional laptop can do, but with a sleek and modern look.
